Dear Friends and family,

It is with a heavy, yet hopeful heart that I write this to all of you.  I am writing to ask for your love and support for an amazing young woman who is in her second battle with breast cancer.

Christina Perez, a 29 year old single mother of 2 beautiful children, ages 7 and 8, is in the fight of her life against this dreadful disease.  Christina was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in August 2007 and in an effort to fight this disease, she underwent chemo and radiation therapy for 9 months. Unfortunately, on August 27, 2008 it was discovered that the cancer had metastasized to her bones and she was re-diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.  She will now have to undergo a second cycle of treatments that are set to begin on September 12th, where she will undergo a battery of intense chemo infusions.  Once this cycle of treatments concludes, she will then face the next phase of her treatment, a surgical procedure called a mastectomy.

She is faced with, literally, the fight of her life for a future with her children.  I am sure you can imagine the emotional, physical, and financial impact this is having on her and her family.  It is really unbearable to watch her daily struggle to attempt to maintain some sense of normalcy in her kid’s lives during this difficult time.  As she undergoes these intense treatments, Christina is unable to continue to work.  Because of this, she has no income, resulting in extreme financial duress in her household.  Christina has numerous medical bills and cost of living expenses from the previous treatment and is now faced with the uncertainties that lie ahead as she begins to go through the next stage of her journey, which is certain to be long and even more costly.  Her family’s emotional strain has been agonizing and at times debilitating, all the while, their financial struggle has been exhausting.

We go on with our daily lives, while Christina and her family forget what it feels like to be normal.  So, I am asking for your help.  If you would, please remember her in your prayers. If you are able to donate it would be greatly appreciated by Christina!  Financial issues are not what she needs to be thinking about.

I have contacted a foundation that has added Christina to their “Beneficiaries” list.  This wonderful organization is called, Helping Hearts For Friends.  They do great work by helping local families during life’s most difficult journeys.  This foundation offers us a way to make a tax-deductible donation that goes 100% towards the Perez family’s financial needs.  Also, if you go to their website at www.helpinghearts4friends.org you can purchase breast cancer tanks and t-shirts in Christina’s name for $20.00, of which 100% of the proceeds will go directly to her through the foundation.

I completely understand if now is not a good time for you to donate.  If you are unable to give at this time, please say a prayer for Christina.  The more prayers, the better!  Even if you can only give a little bit, it will help. Remember, together we can make a difference and bring hope to this family

Once You Choose Hope – Anything Is Possible!

Thank you so much for your consideration.  Please forward this email to your friends and family too!  We can always use the additional help!  It’s amazing what we can do together!

Sincerely,

Curtis and Adrianna Showalter
