Hayden Breneman

August, 2011

My name is Robin Breneman and I have taught school at Bernardo Yorba Middle School for the past 23 years.  I have lived in Placentia and Yorba Linda my entire life and my husband and I have 3 sons: Dylan 14, Wyatt 12, and Hayden 10.

My youngest son Hayden was originally diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia (APML) at which time he underwent 3 years of chemotherapy and went into 7 for seven years.  A few several months ago Hayden went to CHOC Hospital for a routine blood test.  On April 1, 2011 we received a call informing us that Hayden had relapse and his Leukemia had resurfaced.  Hayden has been in Chemotherapy ever since and on August 8, 2011 Hayden was admitted back into CHOC Hospital to begin the process of a bone Marrow transplant.

Hayden will remain in the Oncology Intensive Care Unit for no less that 6 to 8 weeks and he will miss the entire school year as his body fights to regain strength, an immune system while it also battles this aggressive disease.

Financially this has had a tremendous impact on our family.  I left my job as a teacher in the Placentia Yorba Linda school district in April to care for Hayden 7 days a week who receives Chemotherapy infusions 5 days a week that last 6 hours each.  While my insurance coverage remains intact during my leave… my pay check does not.

In addition to the lost wages we are also dealing with the fact that the lifesaving medical treatment that Hayden is undergoing has drained our savings account and the medical bill continue to mount on a daily basis.  The estimated cost to care and treat Hayden over the next year is 5 million dollars.

Our son Hayden is fun loving, upbeat, enthusiastic 4th grader who loves soccer.  Hayden loves soccer and at the time of his relapse he was playing club level soccer for the Yorba Linda Chelsea team.  Having to step off the soccer field to battle his disease has been extremely hard for Hayden.  Hayden is also very close to his brothers and the separation from his family during his hospital stay is going to be very difficult.

The road that lies ahead is a long and difficult one for Hayden and our family.  We would be deeply grateful for any financial assistance.

Thank You,

Robin Breneman
